DriveTracker is more than a mileage log; it’s a full financial dashboard for your independent driving business. By tracking every dollar, you can see your true net profit after expenses.
At the end of every drive, the Session Summary screen appears. This is where you log your financial data:
- Gross Earnings: Enter the total amount shown in your Uber, Lyft, or delivery app.
- Trip Count: The number of completed trips or deliveries.
- Manual Entry: Simply tap any field to type in the dollar amount.
- Voice Entry (Pro) 🎤: Tap the Microphone icon and use the "Smart Secretary" to log everything at once.
- Example: "I made 165 dollars, 15 in gas, and 4.50 in tolls."
¶ 2. Understanding Expense Categories 💸
DriveTracker now tracks four specific categories to help you stay organized for tax season:
- Gas: Total fuel costs for the shift.
- Food: Meals or snacks purchased while active.
- Tolls & Parking: Use this for any bridge tolls, highway fees, or paid parking.
- Other/Misc: Anything else related to your business (car washes, cleaning supplies, phone mounts, etc.).
NOTE: These expenses are automatically subtracted from your Gross Earnings to show your Net Profit on the dashboard.
The government allows a "Standard Mileage Deduction" for business drivers. DriveTracker calculates this automatically:
- Set the Rate: Go to Settings and ensure the Government Mileage Rate is correct (e.g., $0.67).
- Automatic Math: The app multiplies your tracked miles by this rate.
- Tax Savings: On your Dashboard, look for "Tax Benefit." This is the estimated amount you can deduct from your taxes, helping you keep more of your hard-earned money.
Visit the Dashboard to see how your business is growing:
- Net Profit: Your earnings minus all expenses (Gas, Food, Tolls, etc.).
- Avg/Hour: Your real hourly rate. (Tip: Use this to see which times of day are most profitable!).
- Total Savings: The total value of your mileage deduction.
When it’s time to do your taxes or check your monthly progress:
- Go to the Performance tab (the bar chart icon).
- Select the Month or Year you wish to view.
- Tap the Print icon (top right).
- Professional PDF: The app generates a clean report ready for your accountant.
PRIVACY TIP: Your personal "Session Notes" are automatically removed from the printed report to keep your business records professional.
